More recently, adult studies described patients with autoimmune encephalitis (AE), MOG abs, and MRI features such as cortical involvement of the brain. Relapsing forms other than MS in children which are nearly always associated with MOG abs include multiphasic ADEM, ADEM followed by optic neuritis (ADEMON), and AQP-4 negative neuromyelitis optica spectrum diseases (NMOSDs). The defining features of ADEM are the presence of encephalopathy, polyfocal neurologic signs, and typical MRI findings. 1, 2 MOG spectrum diseases (MOG-SDs) manifest primarily in children with isolated or recurrent optic neuritis (ON), isolated or combined with myelitis, or acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM).
